SPARK Follow-Up Support

What type of follow up support is included with a SPARK Program?

It is critical to provide extensive support to ensure each school is successful throughout the change process. To facilitate this effort, SPARK "Stars" are pre-identified among participating teachers to serve as the SPARK liaison.

When a SPARK training ends, everyone leaves except the SPARK Stars and the site principals. For an additional hour (the cost of this SPARK Star training is included in the program cost) SPARK presenters lead a separate, supplemental workshop focusing on the Three I's…

  • Infrastructure: Equipment, scheduling of facilities and classes, admin. support for PE, etc.

  • Implementation: PE teachers resistant to change, students being pulled from PE for non-PE pursuits, large class sizes preventing certain activities from being taught effectively, etc.

  • Institutionalization: Replenishment of equipment, professional growth opportunities, SPARK Institutes and Train the Trainer model, support from peers and others for ongoing program analysis and improvement, etc.

During the SPARK Star training, each attendee receives a SPARK CD and folder of materials to assist them in their roles, as well as SPARK trinkets and gifts as thank yous.

All participants in any SPARK Program receive lifetime support via our 800 number, e-mail, and website. Each participant also receives the SPARK quarterly newsletter (via e-mail).

Attendees are encouraged to stay in touch with SPARK and call with any physical education/activity questions and concerns, no matter how small. SPARK staff consult and send support information and materials forever!

Additionally, SPARK clusters attendees and creates a network of support. SPARK will use this technology to send updates and new information to each teacher who undergoes training.
