3-6 PE Program

Developed through San Diego State University and originally funded by the Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), SPARK 3-6 PE was designed to be more inclusive, active, and fun than traditional PE classes. Aligned with NASPE National Standards, SPARK PE lessons are easy to learn, and easy to teach. SPARK PE has been proven to work with both elementary physical education specialists and classroom teachers.

Program Components:

When an agency or organization chooses the SPARK PE 3-6 Program, they receive the four components necessary to create an exemplary elementary physical education program:

1.Curriculum:

The 3-6 PE Curriculum Manual includes over 500 different activities presented in more than 20 themed, instructional units. Each unit is written in scope and sequence and includes activities aligned to NASPE National Standards. Personalized fitness monitoring, social skills themes, clear visuals and diagrams, and a variety of integration tips complete this comprehensive curriculum.

SPARKfamily is a password-protected website where you can access a library of digital tools including SPARK videos, interactive alignment and assessment tools, Homeplay activities and other new SPARK resources.

2.Training:

The SPARK curriculum is a great start – yet SPARK is not a book, it’s a program. Over the years, SPARK has tested numerous instructional strategies that are best conveyed during face to face training opportunities. The “what to do” (the lesson plans) come alive when the “how to do it” is provided via SPARK training. SPARK workshops are fun and “hands-on”, and teachers are motivated by SPARK’s dynamic and knowledgeable trainers. SPARK presenters travel throughout the world to conduct workshops on days and at times that are convenient for the attendees. For more information on 3-6 PE Workshops, Click Here.

3.Equipment:

A select team of SPARK PE program developers, curriculum writers, and workshop presenters meet annually to modify SPARK equipment sets (a set provides all the items needed to instruct everything in a SPARK manual) that align perfectly with SPARK 3-6 PE activities. 4.Follow-up Support:

For a program to work and last, extensive, ongoing consultation must be provided. SPARK demonstrates its commitment to follow-up via their “SPARK Stars” institutionalization model, offering FREE lifetime support through 800 number and e-mail consultation, a monthly webinar series, social networking opportunities, and a monthly eNewsletter that includes SPARK updates and teaching tips.
