Elementary and Middle/Junior High School Universal Grants
Thanks to the California Department of Education (CDE), $550 million is available for California Elementary and Middle Schools to improve after school literacy and enrichment programs, including physical activity, recreation, health and nutrition.
This funding is a great opportunity to create or expand the recreation and wellness programs offered at the schools in your district. Healthy students are better learners, and physical activity and nutrition programs are a valuable part of any enrichment program.
Who's Eligible: School districts, county offices of education, direct-funded charter schools, and cities, counties, or nonprofit organizations in partnership with a local education agency
Funding Amount: Up to $150,000*
*funding based on projected enrollment and days of operation of each school in the grant
Deadline: Applications are accepted on a continuing basis

SPARK is listed as a recommended resource by the California After School Resource Center, and the CDE strongly encourages applicants to use research-based curricula and strategies that are aligned to California’s state standards and are appropriate for after school audiences.
