Curricula
The SPARK Program curricula are designed to be practical and effective tools for all physical activity providers. All SPARK curricula are presented in 3-ring binders for fast access to materials. Simply pull out a lesson, put it on a clipboard, and take it to class.
Many factors were considered in the preparation of The SPARK Programs: recommendations of curriculum experts, professional organizations, national and state guidelines and frameworks, and Healthy People Goals 2010. The SPARK Programs understands budgetary constraints that restrict schools from purchasing expensive apparatus and equipment. And, The SPARK Programs saw the need for a user friendly document which can be implemented in the real world.
Lifetime support and consultation from SPARK are included with your book purchase, as well as discounts on “SPARK stuff” (t-shirts, water bottles, whistles, etc.). Complete equipment packages from Sportime are available too with free shipping!
SPARK 6-8 PE
Developed through research from San Diego State University Project M-SPAN (Middle School Physical Activity and Nutrition), funded by NHLBI. Busy middle school physical education specialists love the SPARK 6-8 curriculum. They say it gives them new ideas, along with effective teaching tips to respond to obstacles such as limited activity space, lack of equipment, and large class-sizes. This curriculum also provides a pathway towards instructional alignment (teaching to standards) and the tools to get you there. More than 20 chapters and 400 pages provide scope and sequence for a variety of instructional units such as golf, frisbee and softball. But remember, this is SPARK PE, so traditional activities and skill progressions have been modified to achieve greater participation, enjoyment, and higher student activity levels. The curriculum also provides a wide array of sample assessment tools, a chapter on promoting activity away from PE class, even monthly "Action Alerts" that provide research-based tips to parents and the community.
