SPARK - School Specialty. Physical Education & Wellness

SPARK has selected Healthy Lifestyle Choices (HLC) as our exclusive Health Education partner. HLC is a cross-curricular program with a behavioral focus that has been proven to significantly increase health knowledge and positively impact youth behaviors.

This comprehensive health education curriculum addresses goal setting and decision making as it relates to fitness, nutrition, conflict resolution, safety and substance-abuse prevention.

HLC’s curriculum is flexible and provides a variety of scheduling and implementation options for busy elementary teachers. The lessons can have their own “stand alone” time, or be integrated into other core subjects. HLC meets all of the National Health Education Standards, is easy to use, and requires few supplies.

Audience: Elementary classroom teachers, physical education specialists, after school  and/or early childhood providers

Program Components:

1. Curriculum/Materials

HLC curriculum addresses five youth risk behaviors identified by the CDC as contributing to the leading causes of early disability and death in youth. Units include: Life Skills, Conflict Resolution, Nutrition, Substance Abuse Prevention, Safety and Fitness. For more information on HLC curriculum/materials, Click Here.

2.  Training

HLC provides free on-line training and web-based resources, including virtual trainings, color downloads, video games, parent information, password protected lesson updates/additions, media messages, answer keys to class activities, and current outcomes from external HLC evaluations.

3.  Lifetime Support

For a program to work and last, ongoing consultation must be provided. SPARK is committed to extensive follow-up via their unique “SPARK Stars” institutionalization model, and myriad FREE value adds including lifetime support via 800 number and e-mail consultation, a monthly webinar series, social networking opportunities, and a monthly eNewsletter that includes SPARK updates and teaching tips.
